Chain of Events

If I were truly assiduous, I would transcribe all the text messages I sent last night to hilarious and frightening effect.

But...I only have my email inbox handy.

Me on getting to Srirpraphai early/on time: "we can make the 10 [showing of Tropic Thunder] as long as people actually do show up at 8. so, you snooze you lose. we're not gonna save any crispy duck salad for you."

Then the mistakes started. I got on the train at Hoyt-Schermerhorn at 7:10 and got on the G train going to Queens. Except...it was actually the A train going out to JFK. I realized my mistake by Broadway Junction, and got out on the A going in the other direction. Except...it was the A train going out to the Far Rockaways. Eeeek! I made it as far as 80th Street before I realized my second mistake and headed back to Broadway Junction.

Whereupon I got on the L, to transfer to the G (finally!), and then the 7. And ran all the way from the stop to Sripraphai, an hour late and with visions of crispy duck salad whirling through my head.

Once I got there, I ate my chili chicken dish really fast to try and compensate for lateness.

Oh yes, the novel I was reading on the train - Blindness.

The food was great, though. Worth it!

Weekends and Weekdays Alike

August is going by quickly!

Is it because I spend entire blocks of time blissfully and purposefully alone?

50 Foot Wave

That's what a drunk guy called me back in the winter at the Brooklyn Inn.

50 Foot Wave's Recipe for a Saturday Afternoon Snack
1 zucchini and 2 ears of corn fresh from the farmers market
1 can tuna, packed in olive oil
oregano, salt, pepper to taste
cheddar cheese

Saute in pan.

Hooray

The weather right now -76% and clear, although balmy at 75% humidity. I don't even believe that, really.

My living room window is open.

I'm watching Kelly Choi and her frightful-heartstopping eye makeup on WNYC.

I'm wearing the short-sleeved grey sweatshirt I bought at the Vermont Country Store.

It gave me great pleasure to ride home tonight with a backpack and no iPod. Hands free, ears free.

Une idee quelconque

I drove from Poughkeepsie to Weston, VT yesterday to pay a visit to V and K at Kinhaven, and to treat myself! The sight of verdant mountain ranges as I zipped up the Taconic (wow, HIGHLY recommended over the NYS Thruway route in terms of scenery and traffic-free experience). The knockout smell of the air, heady with growing things. The flat, sweet taste of Vermont tapwater...and the round, sweet taste of banana pudding! And the mystical harmonies of music campers singing bellsongs before lights out.

Completely necessary. I feel so gratified to be able to make these spontaneous getaways! I was/am getting a little sick, and breathless, and worn down by the petty politics (of work) and endless hilarious disappointments (of life). Now I'm back in Poughkeepsie, idly turning over the pages of books, eating the farm fresh produce I brought back, and pondering whether I could do this without bungles. Feeling ready for some BIG decisions and whittling down of self. For August.
