Wow

It's wonderful to be shocked by things when you'd like to consider yourself completely jaded. Such as the palatial digs of Jenn's co-worker's apartment, and the attendant bartenders and Halloween frat party atmosphere last night. Palatial. Hot tubs for apple bobbing. Etc.

My bed is now re-assembled, freshly made, and now rumpled again.

I wish I were now not such a total wimp about doing some more substantial (and necessary) room alterations, like putting up bookshelves. Then again, it'll just be less to do when I leave. Hooray, for leaving!

And also my dismay at some highly rhetorical and nerdy reactions to an extremely homophobic confrontation at 3:30 in the morning last night at Daddy-O over piles of tater tots and chicken quesadillas. Well, we're all worn out from all the celibacy we've been having.

I think I've started storing up for the winter months. Food tastes so good to me these days!

Lost Season Two

Lost my second Kate Spade Bexley wallet to date. This time, in another city - Philly. We were in town for Homecoming "The Time is Now, The Season is Penn" 2007.

I feel disgusting as you might imagine after all of the NJT/SEPTA involved in a jaunt down to the City of Brotherly Love. What is it about staying over at someone else's house unexpectedly that leaves the inside of your mouth feeling dank and repulsive, regardless of whether or not you've brushed your teeth?

Anyway, two trips to Mad4Mex on Saturday demonstrated finally that the $5 margaritas at happy hour are still a ridiculously great deal.

I've re-arranged most of my bedroom over the past couple of days, with the exception of my bed frame, which I really don't feel like disassembling until the last possible moment. So I'm sitting here on my mattress...which is sitting on the floor. What is it they say about practice what you preach?

And visiting Chicago and Philly over this past week also more hard evidence to support my theory that living in Manhattan is an elitist dream. Brooklyn ho?

Bob and Weave

Thinking hard as I am these days about hairstyles, it struck me as being so cute that "bob and weave" would be a great name for a salon. With a diverse customer base.

What fullness of experience has been heaped upon me lately! And I've got the credit card bills to prove it.

Yesterday, I went hiking at Bash Bish Falls with a mixed crew - Jackie, Luis, and Manoj. Songs were sung (both the English and Spanish versions of 'John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt'.) Mountains were scaled, views were marveled at, and wasabi peas were crunched. We learned how long it takes for wool socks to biodegrade in the woods (not empirically). And we went to the Eveready!

And in the more recent past I feel the unsteadiness of my location. "Where shall I live?" "Where shall I vacation?" Now it seems that, as always, these types of questions are being resolved FOR me. In ways that are delightful and fortuitous. I don't know how to make sense of that.

A question I'm resolving on my own (with others) is "How good will I look when I lose all this weight?" More to come on that soon.

I do know though, I think, how I "feel" these days. I'm always deeply worried about something. But somehow this inexhaustible joy is seeping out of me, all the hours of the day. It's almost meditative. I don't want to wreck my concentration. For more details, please refer to "For Reverend Green" (Animal Collective) and "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" (Spoon).

Impulse

The difference between the words 'impel' and 'compel' is so nuanced. I was trying to think how I'd explain it in words, and didn't really get anywhere. Thank goodness for those dictionary machines!

From the Compact OED:
impel: 1 drive, force, or urge to do. 2 drive forward.
compel: 1 force or oblige to do something. 2 bring about by force or pressure.

Yes, I said - nuanced! You should probably imagine me, sitting at a white desk, looking out the window, thinking about using those words in a sentence.

Some big decisions, coming up! Mostly travel related. Scandinavia or Morocco for a November trip? I made a 'big decision' today when I bought a $350 Hogan handbag at Butter Consignment. It somehow looks not quite as cute sitting on my bed as it did in the store - the color looks different and the styling looks more old-fashioned (circa late 90s). But I am sure it will win a special place in my affections. Perhaps it will rescue me from a precarious situation?

A strange confluence of Huntsman alums on Saturday night in front of Zum Schneider. Beer is so weird. Really, only tasty when it is super wheaty or fruity! My hangover mystery a mystery no longer?

Ooh, but I saw the tail end of the Vendy Awards on Saturday as I wandered around trying to find Bodeguita "We use minced garlic instead of salt" Cubana. Mmmm...street food!
